Come to an even bigger surprise to me when they began to pour out, especially when it was AFTER I became a mother.
My Husband on the other hand saw someone else, "who is this person? Is that my wife" and had always pointed out how terrible it sounds, because it's not like me.
As I reflect on the past 8 yrs of my mommy journey I have said and done many regretable thing. I have completely lost track of how many times I've prayed from James 1:19 (Lord, help ME to be quick to listen, SLOW to speak, and SLOW to anger.)
Its taken me long enough but the more the Lord is cleaning my dirty heart the more I can hear his voice. And just like our kids learn from our language, the ONLY way I will learn how to speak like my Heavenly Father is by listening to HIS life breathing voice found in HIS scripture. And the more I memorize and pray his word the more I may resemble HIM.
FATHER GOD, TEACH ME HOW TO SPEAK, HOW TO ECHO THE SOUND OF YOUR VOICE FOR ALL TO HEAR.
If you haven't practiced the verse above, I challenge you to try it with me. I will be starting first thing Saturday morning.
Now PLEASE don't jump to assume that I am preaching or judging. This is what I am struggling with and need to work on and not any personal opinion of anyone other than myself. But everyone needs encouragement to surrender your struggles to the Lord and allow him to give your heart a tune up.
1. Be QUICK to LISTEN to your child/children. Not interrupting them with a firm NO, but letting them have the respect they deserve to voice their oh so curious and endless thoughts.
2. Speak S L O W L Y from your heart with as much LOVE and GRACE from Jesus. Eph.4.29. NIV Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Giving good thought to point them to full repentance and forgiveness.
(Now this one might be the most difficult because if your children are anything like mine, after 5 words I have pretty much lost there complete attention, and they don't even remember why I'm speaking in the first place.)
3. Be S L O W E R to become ANGRY. I bet it's very hard to be ANGRY when you're trying to speak in slow motion with as few words as possible! ok seriously, we all need this one.
Eph.4.31-32.niv Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
So on a lighter note, I've decide to begin my challenge by re-naming a few of the most popular 'NOT so curse free' abbreviations.
LMAO - Laughing my abdomen off....because its bigger than my butt, I wanna keep what I got.
FML - FORGIVE ME LORD cause I need you eveyday.
WTF - Where's the food?
May our Heavenly Father guide you daily on your motherhood journey. Giving you all that you need to accommodate His purpose for you and your sheep. xoxo
