The original plan was to complete chemo and have a few weeks to recover before my surgery. After speaking to my Oncologist she strongly advised me not to wait til the end of the month for surgery. Her reasoning was quite simple. From the moment I found the lump it only took a few short weeks for it to rapidly grow and move into my lymph nodes, her concern is that if there is any microscopic amount of Cancer left that the Chemotherapy has not effected it could potentially grow just as quickly within the next three weeks if not treated. Therefore, we will not wait and take any chances. I will be speaking to my general surgeon on Monday to schedule my double mastectomy for possibly Wednesday or Friday.
Along with having the double mastectomy I will also be getting my ovaries removed at the same time. I have tested positive for the BRCA 1 gene. In other words, I had the same genetic testing done that Angelia Jolie had done. I tested positive for a genetic gene mutation. This meaning that my risk for Breast Cancer has always been 80%, I also have a 40% risk of developing Ovarian Cancer.
With the surgery right around the corner I can't help but feel a little unprepared. By nature I like to have things in order and somewhat controlled. Mia is starting 1st grade on Tuesday and it just seems like bad timing to have such a huge surgery just a few days into her school year. And with it being pushed up so quickly it also gives my mom little time to fly in from Hawaii. So as the coming week unfolds I ask that you pray for peace for both Tony and I. Please also pray for wisdom for my doctors, surgeons and nurses. Please pray that GOD would work through each and everyone that is involved with the surgery and that if it is HIS WILL that HE will bring complete restoration and healing to my body. May I have a quick recovery and may the pathology reports come back with miraculous results. Please also pray for my children during this time as they will not understand why I will be in the hospital for a few days.
Thank you all for your incredible support, encouragement and prayers throughout this entire journey.
